The Pimlico plan includes a new state-of-the-art clubhouse and community events center at Pimlico, replacing facilities that were over 100 years old in parts. The clubhouse and events center will be a community asset and available for community use when not being used for the Preakness Stakes or other racing meets.

The Laurel Park plan also includes a new state-of-the-art clubhouse and world-class racing and training facilities, including the addition for racing and training of a new state-of-the-art, all-weather Tapeta™ track and new stables and training facilities in a horsemen’s village setting designed in consultation with the state’s racing industry.

Preserving The Preakness At Pimlico

  • The second jewel of the Triple Crown, the Preakness, will remain in Baltimore City for countless future generations to enjoy.
  • The aging Pimlico racetrack will be transformed into a modern, year-round, multi-use facility; better serving the needs of the Park Heights and Baltimore Communities.
  • Modern renovations and the new clubhouse will ensure Pimlico has the world-class facilities to host Maryland's largest sporting event.

Modernizing Laurel Park and Maximizing Economic Development

  • Laurel Park will be modernized with the addition of a state-of-the-art Tapeta synthetic track, a new clubhouse, and new barns.
  • The new Laurel Park facility will support and preserve the year-round horse racing industry in Maryland.
  • Thousands of horse racing and equestrian related jobs will be saved for Marylanders.
